Hair Removal

Men and women share a common cosmetic issue – Unwanted hair. Removing hair can be a painful undertaking. Shaving barely removes the hair and leaves behind irritating bumps, and the hair starts to reappear by the next day.

Waxing involves ripping the hair out of the follicle, and this can be extremely uncomfortable, especially in more delicate areas. At Remedy Hair Restoration & Medical Spa, we offer men and women laser hair removal that is comfortable and effective.

Benefits of laser hair removal

  • Better than shaving or waxing
  • Long-lasting results
  • Comfortable
  • Quick, easy treatments
  • No downtime

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal is unique because it does not pull the hair or cut it. Rather, laser hair removal destroys the hair all the way down to the root. The hair simply falls out of the follicle.

Laser Hair Removal in Grand Rapids, MI

Our Venus Versa™ is transforming hair removal by using advanced technology to permanently reduce unwanted hair on the face and body. Each application of the Intense Pulsed Light with SmartPulse™ gets to the deeper layers of the skin to target the pigment and destroy the hair follicle. Real-time cooling keeps skin protected while the SmartPulse™ technology ensures safe and consistent heat distribution. Depending on the size and location of the treatment area, your laser hair removal takes 15 to 60 minutes. Because the hair is at various stages of growth, you may need more than one treatment.

The Cutera CoolGlide Difference

The CoolGlide® (1064 Nd:YAG) is the first laser FDA cleared for permanent hair reduction in all skin types, from the very fair skin patients to dark and black skin patients. Now men and women alike are making unwanted facial and body hair a thing of the past – thanks to the Cutera CoolGlide Laser. No more painful waxing, electrolysis or razors! The CoolGlide laser delivers 21st century technology for treatment of this distressing problem. Cleared for permanent hair reduction, the CoolGlide laser can treat men and women of all skin types safely and effectively, year-round. Even patients with a suntan.

The Cutera CoolGlide was designed to be the most outstanding laser hair removal system on the market for all skin types, from light to dark, including tanned patients. Its unique design, longer wavelength, and innovative cooling allow extremely effective, safe and permanent results.

As the name implies, the CoolGlide handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.

Most areas require 6-8 treatments. However, the number of CoolGlide treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors – hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. CoolGlide treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

Immediately following your CoolGlide treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, the CoolGlide effectively treats an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.

Frequently asked Questions

  1. I HAVE DARKER SKIN – CAN I STILL GET THIS TREATMENT DONE?
Venus Versa™ hair removal treatments work best for light to medium skin tones. The treatment may work on darker skin, but there is a higher risk of discoloration because darker skin has more pigment in it. It’s best to consult with the technician to see if the treatment is right for you. They will perform a test spot and wait between 15 minutes to 48 hours, depending on your skin tone, to assess your reaction to the light.
  2. CAN I DO IT DURING MY LUNCH BREAK?
You may be able to, depending on what part of the body you’re getting treated. If it’s a smaller area, it may only take as little as 15-30 minutes. A larger area, like two full legs, may take up to 60 minutes.
  3. HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED TO SEE RESULTS?
Most patients receive 6-10 treatments per area. The exact number will depend on each individual person and the area being treated.
  4. HOW OFTEN/FAR APART SHOULD THE TREATMENTS BE?
Treatments are done 4-6 weeks apart for the face and 4-8 weeks apart for the body.
  5. DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING TO PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?
Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams or makeup before your session, and stop using any products that might irritate your skin 2-3 days before. You should also avoid tanning. Depending on where you’re getting a treatment, you may be advised to shave the area on the day of your treatment. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated.
  1. HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT SESSION LAST?
It depends on what part of the body you’re covering.
  2. WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
It feels like a really light snap with an elastic band against your skin, or like if someone lightly flicked you, as the applicator moves around the treatment area.
  3. WILL IT BE PAINFUL?
The applicator has a cooling feature built into it to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, but you might feel a bit of discomfort if you’re treating a more sensitive area, like along the bikini line. If you find it too uncomfortable, let the operator know and they can adjust the treatment accordingly.
  1. HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER MY TREATMENT?
Your skin may look dry and feel a little itchy if the operator has to dry-shave the area before starting the treatment. Moisturizing can help relieve the itch. Other than that, you shouldn’t really feel any different after your treatment.
  2. HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST AND ARE THEY PERMANENT?
It really depends on how your hair grows. Some people may see permanent hair removal, while others who see sporadic hair growth in the area may need touch-up treatments to maintain the results.
  3. IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
There is no downtime. You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment.
  4. DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING AFTER MY TREATMENT?
Avoid tanning for at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your treatment, and wear sunscreen. You should also avoid hot baths, massages, or any treatment that requires direct contact with the skin for the first 2 days after your treatment.
  5. IF I GOT A TREATMENT ON MY FACE, CAN I PUT MAKEUP UP ON RIGHT AFTER?
Yes, you can apply makeup immediately after your treatment but make sure you put on sunscreen first.
